Key Performance Areas:

Production:

o Artwork Production Management

o Supplier Relationship management & sourcing

o Quoting, costing & budgeting

o Timeline & production management

Logistics:

o Inventory management & stock control of incoming, outgoing inventory & internal stock movements

o Management of Artwork Packing

o Condition reporting

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

Production:

  • Working closely with Design & Production Team, determine exact details and requirements for every object that is produced or sourced for the gallery programme.
  • Work with the gallery artists to produce bodies of work, specific commissions, exhibition concepts, international fair presentations.
  • Draft timelines for production of work.
  • Liaise with suppliers, artists, sub-contractors on requesting and receiving quotes, managing project deadlines, and providing feedback to design and operations teams.
  • Work with manufacturers/suppliers/service providers to coordinate design development to support product development and exhibition set build for exhibition installations.
  • Action new orders issuing purchase orders, requesting proformas, tax invoices, managing payment schedules with finance department.
  • Oversee production with a specific focus on timelines, construction, quality and finishes.
  • Carry out quality control and troubleshooting of commissioned artworks, furniture and smalls.
  • Record keeping for production costs and accounting procedures.
  • Manage production on collections for international artists including liaison with international galleries and international and local artists including design specifications, pricing, manufacture, record keeping, etc
  • Generate care & installation instructions, based on artist and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Manage and develop best systems to streamline production processes including monitoring production, deadlines, packing and delivery to ensure timeous installation of artworks and streamlining/reducing costs.
  • Carry out new manufacturer & supplier research and outreach.

Logistics:

  • Receiving and recording of all work from artists, and incoming SG product.
  • Liaising with production, shipping and registration teams to ensure that all work received is accurately recorded on the inventory system and relevant production schedules.
  • Accurately measuring new and existing work for recording on the inventory system and relevant production schedules, and for ordering of crates and packaging.
  • Condition checking of incoming and outgoing work.
  • Condition reporting for internal purposes, and to share with clients and institutions as needed.
  • Instructing maintenance and cleaning of existing and incoming work.
  • Managing the collection and preparation of artwork for photo shoots and assisting with movement and care of the work on shoot days.
  • Ensuring all work is suitably and safely packaged for storage where necessary, and management of SG storage sites.
  • Coordinating and tracking internal and external movement of work.
  • Conducting regular inventory assessments for stock and quality control purposes.
  • Managing any issues related to damaged or missing items promptly and professionally.
  • Managing packaging inventory and budget.
  • Ensuring all work is safely packaged for transport to clients, fairs, institutions and SGLA gallery.
  • Scheduling and overseeing fumigation of work as needed.
  • Drafting packing and unpacking instructions and ensuring these are included with work when crating.
  • Ensuring that are instructions & certificates are included with work when crating.
  • Providing management with insights and recommendations for process improvements.

Position Requirements:

  • Creative, production, manufacturing or interior design and technical experience
  • Project management experience
  • Strong admin skills, and computer literacy, specifically in Excel.
  • Experience in art handling, logistics, and inventory management.
  • Exposure to the creative and manufacturing industries
  • An excellent eye, wide knowledge of materials and processes, and strong design sensibility.
  • Effective communication skills, the ability to work well in a team, and collaborate with artists and team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task and work under pressure.
  • A flexible and enthusiastic attitude, with nimble and adaptive thinking.
  • Authentic interest and commitment to research - resulting in a deep understanding of all artists represented by the gallery and their practices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R28 000,00 - R32 000,00 per month
