A challenging opportunity exists for a strategic and experienced leader to head the Hospital Benefit Management Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of hospital benefit management, ensuring the effective delivery of services, managing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and optimizing the overall benefit management process for both clients and the organization.

This position reports directly to the Executive: Managed Healthcare

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12.
  • Registered Nursing/pharmacist or any other relevant tertiary qualification essential
  • Medical Scheme administration experience of 3 years and more essential.
  • Management role with extensive people management responsibilities of 2 years and more essential.
  • Sound clinical knowledge 5 years essential
  • Industry/legislation and regulations 5 years essential
  • Council circulars 5 years essential
  • Product knowledge is essential for 2 years
  • Policies and Procedures 2 years essential
  • ISO Principles 2 years essential
  • Contractual SLAs2 years essential
Duties and Responsibilities Client Focus:
  • Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met and exceeded through exceptional service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to ensure high satisfaction levels.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to manage client activity and satisfaction.
  • Contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing to improve performance across business functions.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and scheme rules.
People Management:
  • Recruit, train, and retain qualified employees while fostering a safe and supportive environment.
  • Actively manage the performance of the team, recognizing individual career goals and strengths.
  • Foster an engaged, motivated workforce by supporting training initiatives and a healthy work environment.
  • Work with HR to address grievances, disciplinary issues, and improve employee relations.

Commercial Acumen:
  • Stay informed on industry trends and competitors impacting the business.

  • Meet strict deadlines while managing processes and people to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Use customer feedback (surveys, focus groups, etc.) to understand client expectations and refine strategies.
  • Forecast workload requirements and staffing needs using data analysis (e.g., call volume, average handling time).
Communication:
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, able to operate at all levels of the organization.
  • Handle demanding clients with composure and professionalism.
  • Negotiate with healthcare providers to obtain the best possible costs for clients, adhering to scheme rules.
Planning and Organizing:
