The purpose of this role is to support the Supply Chain Operations reporting solution through administration of the Cognos Analytics environment used for Supply Chain Reporting as well as writing, modifying, refactoring, debugging, troubleshooting and testing new or existing reports, dashboards and SSIS ETL scripts, ensuring that the reporting servers function reliably and optimally and that new business reporting requirements are met according to Shoprite standards. The role works alongside the Solution and Domain Architects, Business and Functional Analysts and Programming team to accomplish reporting requirements. The role takes the technical lead on large and complex projects and requires deep, specialised knowledge of Cognos Analytics concepts, such as metadata modelling, report development, data management and information analysis, as well as other scripting languages as may be required and how these are applied within an organisation to adapt and deliver within the required frameworks. The role will also entail mentorship to other team members to enable the function to grow the capability while creating a high performing team. The role requires an expert level understanding of Cognos Analytics concepts, frameworks, and supporting tools to enable optimal delivery of solutions within an Agile Scrum team.

Create, enhance and maintain Framework Manager models to support business requirements: Understanding and translate business requirements into the appropriate meta data and framework models to facilitate reporting solutions. Plan and complete deliverables according to agreed plan, identify areas for modification and improvement, and develop and maintain documentation throughout the report development life cycle.

Write complex reports using the various tools available within Cognos Analytics following appropriate protocols for development specifications, quality assurance and release procedures Understand and confirm system requirements with Business and Functional Analysts and document accordingly. Create conceptual, logical, and physical solutions and write clean, scalable reports and dashboards using available Cognos Analytics tools and other scripting languages as may be required. Act as technical lead in identifying suitable solution(s), technical interfaces, specifications, and architecture according to organisational frameworks, development principles, and quality compliance standards and criteria that address business needs/stakeholder requirements, solution delivery and operations areas. Oversee, guide and direct requirements with systems designer and other developers. Take the technical lead and guide the Development teams where applicable to develop and maintain operational systems, create, and test solution prototypes and develop reports and dashboards, in line with Shoprite standards. Serve as champion for driving compliance and delivery within the frameworks of both waterfall SDLC and Agile (SCRUM) methodologies.

Create dimensional models (Cubes) to facilitate drill through & Slice and Dice reporting, and intricate, intuitive dashboard creation Identify, design and implement data cubes to support complex data structures and to allow drill through reporting as well as the ability to slice and dice data to provide operational insights.

Deliver development projects and changes and manage the release process Partner with stakeholders across multiple functional areas in the business to ensure the provision of quality technical knowledge and advice to drive results forward.

Manage delivery on projects and drive continuous improvement by keeping up to date with relevant technology

Mentoring of Development teams

Mentor emerging developers and new team members and contribute toward developing Cognos skills and capability for the Group.

Administer Cognos Analytics secure access, managing user and group profiles, access control and capabilities Monitor and maintain registered Cognos Analytics users. Manage new user access to Cognos Analytics as per user requests.

Qualifications

Diploma /Degree in Information Systems / B.Sc. Computer Science (or similar)

Cognos Analytics certification

Experience

+5 years experience as a Cognos Administrator and Report Developer - (essential).

Experience of leading projects within the Software Development Life Cycle - (essential)

Diverse and progressive experience in general software development.

Supply Chain or Distribution systems experienced - (recommended)

Solid Analysis, Design & Testing experience - (advantageous)

Solid System Support experience - (advantageous)

Experience in a retail environment - (desirable)

Knowledge and Skills

Cognos Analytics Administration and Report and Dashboard Writing Proficiency - (essential).

Solid Practical Exposure to Agile & Scrum - (advantageous)

Solid Practical Exposure to Atlassian JIRA - (advantageous)
