Do you have Right of Appearance in the High Court to present clients in legal proceedings? Our client in Cape Town CBD requires a practicing attorney to advise clients on legal issues, prepare documents to present in court.
This position involves management of the entire legal process from initial consultation to resolution, settlement negotiations, preparing clients cases for trial and presentation.
Requirements:
- LLB degree
- Proof of admission to courts
- Minimum 5 years post-article experience
- GhostPractice, LegalSuite and/or other legal software experience
- MS Office - Excel, Word and Outlook
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Understanding of South African corporate law and regulatory environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in legal matters including civil, criminal, family, labour, and commercial law
- Draft, file, and argue cases in court
- Provide sound legal advice tailored to the clients situation
- Explain legal rights, responsibilities, and options in understandable terms
- Advise on contracts, disputes, regulatory compliance, and more
- Draft and review contracts, wills, affidavits, pleadings, and legal opinions
- Ensure documents are legally sound, enforceable, and meet client objectives
- Negotiate on behalf of clients in disputes and settlements
- Keep accurate financial records
- Stay updated on changes in legislation, case law, and legal practice
- Maintain clear, regular communication with clients
- Inform clients of progress and significant developments in their cases
- Maintain proper administrative systems and record-keeping
