Community Journalist

WP Media has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced local journalist. The successful candidate will be enlisted to write for the WP Media print edition and digital platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with the editors to grow and develop content for the defined target audiences.

• Contribute high-level long-form content for print in line with the editorial strategies.
• Create digital content of a high standard in line with the business needs, including web articles, social media content, video, and podcasts.
• All produced content must be in line with our publications style guide and adhere to the editorial structures as defined by the editors.
• Manage WP Media social media platforms and digital platforms
• Assist in managing content management systems

• A degree or diploma in English, journalism or media studies.

• Demonstrate the ability to deliver on the expectations.
• A minimum of three years experience in the relevant industry.
• Strong digital skills.
• A strong understanding of multimedia.
• Understanding of media laws and the South African Press Code.

• Strong writing skills with attention to detail to ensure clean and correct copy.
• Skillset to create multimedia content of a high standard.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Make decisions independently as well as within a group.
• Strong planning and organisational skills.
• Logical thinker who can analyse situations and come up with the right solutions.
• Excellent people-relations skills.
• Planning and organising skills.
• Show initiative and act independently.
• Good time management and the ability to multitask effectively and follow through.
• Excellent knowledge of social media platforms.
• Valid drivers licence.
