Job description:
- Art Sales to private clients, museums and foundations, with a quarterly target of USD400,000.
- Management of existing client base, and research and strategy to engage new clients.
- Market intelligence regarding key museums and relationships with key stakeholders, with the goal of placing Southern Guild artists in relevant collections.
- Development of new distribution channels and market segments.
- Collaboration with sales team to develop a business development plan and establish new business development strategies.
- Attend selected art fairs to sell art, as well as develop key relationships with clients, advisors, curators and museums.
- Customer relationship management, and management of sales delivery (from closing a sale through to delivery of the artwork by the logistics team)
- Client database management, including analytics reporting from CRM system.
- Input into artworks selection for sales channels including; gallery exhibitions, show rooms, art fairs, and digital channels.
- Input into artwork pricing, and pricing strategies.
- Developing a strategy for client events and activations, as well as event oversight and management.
- Leveraging relationships with museum directors and curators to create opportunities for artist exhibitions and placement of Southern Guild artists on museum shows and biennales.
- Responsibility for management of the Cape Town sales team, and ensuring this team achieves their sales goals.

Position requirements:
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to engage authentically with clients and artists.
- Strong ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to plan, lead and motivate.
- In-depth understanding and experience of the South African and International art markets. In-depth understanding of contemporary African art and design
- Sales negotiation skills, in person and via email, including numeracy and analytical skills.
- Flexibility for travel, locally and internationally, with fair notice.
- Ability to problem solve, multi-task and work under pressure.
- Independent working methods requiring decision-making, responsibility and accountability.
- A commitment to confidentiality at all times, both within the organisation and outside of it, in perpetuity.
- Big picture thinking with an understanding of the overall brand identities and goals and a strong desire to continue to grow and build on these goals.
- Strong ability to engage curatorially with artists practices, and ability to communicate artists concepts and practices to clients
- Graduate degree in fine art or art history preferable.
- Previous experience in art sales.
- Ability to engage with clients at a high level.

Pay: R50 000,00 - R60 000,00 per month
