  • A BEng / BSc degree in Civil Engineering
  • Formal training at postgraduate level in wastewater treatment
process design & modelling advantageous
  • Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa
(ECSA) as Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 8 years experience including planning, wastewater
treatment process / wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) designs, process simulations, WWTP debottlenecking / optimisation as well as exposure to project / contract management of WWTP construction projects
  • A valid Code B drivers licence
  • Must be physically fit
Key Performance Areas
  • Strategic planning of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)
infrastructure in keeping with service delivery requirements
  • Identify and define the short, medium and long-term objectives
relating to Wastewater Treatment Infrastructure and Sector / Master Plans
  • Liaise with / provide input to internal stakeholder Branches to
ensure holistic planning across the Water and Sanitation Directorate
  • Manage scoping, feasibility and concept stages of projects
related to WWTPs
  • Direct and control outcomes associated with WWTP process
engineering designs, specifications and treatment technology
  • Perform hydraulic and process modelling relating to existing /
future WWTP designs, treatment capacity and performance
  • Provide a specialist wastewater treatment technical advisory
and engineering support service to the Branch
  • Disseminate functional information regarding current
developments, problems and constraints within the WWTP catchments
  • Knowledge management and involvement with research and
development regarding wastewater treatment.
