Ostrich Farm Manager
The Ostrich Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an ostrich farming facility, ensuring optimal health, breeding, and productivity of the ostriches. This role includes managing staff, maintaining farm infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare and agricultural standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Livestock Management:
- Oversee the feeding, watering, health monitoring, and general care of ostriches.
- Supervise breeding programs, hatching, and chick rearing to optimize flock productivity.
- Work closely with veterinarians to manage vaccination schedules and treat illnesses or injuries.

- Farm Operations:
- Monitor and maintain enclosures, equipment, and facilities to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Coordinate feed supply, equipment purchases, and waste disposal.
- Implement biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.

- Staff Management:
- Lead and supervise farm workers and animal caretakers.
- Train new staff in proper handling and safety procedures.
- Schedule and delegate tasks to optimize efficiency and animal care.

- Record Keeping & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records on ostrich health, breeding, feed consumption, and production data.
- Prepare reports on farm performance and suggest improvements.

- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure the farm complies with local, national, and international regulations regarding animal welfare, biosecurity, and environmental sustainability.
- Liaise with inspectors, suppliers, and other stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 8-10 years experience managing a livestock farm; experience with ostriches or exotic birds is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of ostrich biology, nutrition, breeding, and health management.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with farm management software and record-keeping systems.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor farm environment, subject to weather conditions.
- Physically demanding work; requires standing, lifting, and working with large animals.
- May require weekends, early mornings, or holidays depending on farm needs.
