Photographer

Minimum Qualifications

  • NQF Level 5 qualification in Photography, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, or a related creative field.
  • Additional certifications in digital photography, photo editing, or studio lighting (advantageous).

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience as a Photographer.
  • Demonstrated portfolio covering various photography styles such as portrait, event, product, corporate, or lifestyle.
  • Experience in both studio and on-location photography settings.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Photography Skills:
  • Proficient in operating DSLR/mirrorless cameras, lighting equipment, lenses, and accessories.
  • Skilled in composition, exposure, framing, and capturing high-quality, well-balanced images.
  • Post-Production & Editing:
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and other editing tools for retouching and color correction.
  • Ability to prepare photos for print, digital media, and web platforms.
  • Creative Direction:
  • Strong visual storytelling ability and a good eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Capable of interpreting briefs and translating concepts into compelling imagery.
  • Studio & On-Site Photography:
  • Comfortable setting up and managing shoots in studio environments, outdoor settings, and dynamic event spaces.
  • Ability to work with natural and artificial lighting techniques.
  • Digital Workflow:
  • Organised in managing large volumes of image files.
  • Knowledge of file formatting, resolution, archiving, and backups.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - especially when working with clients, models, and team members.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality photographs for various purposes (e.g., events, portraits, products, campaigns, social media).
  • Edit, retouch, and deliver images according to brand standards and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with creative teams, clients, and marketing personnel to achieve visual goals.
  • Maintain photography equipment and ensure it is in excellent working condition.
  • Stay current with photography trends, techniques, and digital tools.
