Security Dog Handler
Key Responsibilities:
- Security Patrols & Monitoring:
- Conduct regular security patrols with the dog to monitor assigned areas, ensuring they are secure and free of potential threats.
- Monitor surveillance systems in conjunction with the dogs patrols to provide a comprehensive security response.
- Use the dog to search for signs of unauthorized access, hidden threats, or suspicious activity.
- Training and Handling:
- Train dogs in specific security-related tasks such as detecting drugs, explosives, or weapons, as well as patrol, bite work, and handler protection.
- Reinforce and maintain the dogs skills through continuous training, ensuring the dog responds to commands and performs tasks effectively.
- Assess and address any behavioural issues or training gaps that could affect the dogs performance in a security setting.
- Ensure the dog is properly socialized, acclimated to various environments, and capable of handling the stress of real-world security tasks.
- Search and Detection:
- Utilize the dog for searches of vehicles, buildings, luggage, or areas where illegal substances, explosives, or weapons may be hidden.
- Conduct searches during high-risk situations, including crowd control, event security, and access point checks.
- Work with the dog to detect illicit substances or other dangerous materials as part of the security teams efforts.
- Incident Response & Security Operations:
- Respond to security incidents or threats, utilizing the dog for deterrence, apprehension, or protection as necessary.
- Deploy the dog in high-risk situations, such as chasing or apprehending suspects who pose a threat.
- Provide backup support to law enforcement or security personnel during situations that require the dogs intervention.
- Dog Care and Maintenance:
- Provide daily care and grooming for the dog, ensuring the dog remains healthy, fit, and ready for duty.
- Ensure that the dog has regular veterinary care, including vaccinations and check-ups, and administer medications as required.
- Ensure the dogs living quarters are clean, safe, and comfortable.
- Record Keeping & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of the dogs training, health, and performance.
- Report on the dogs status, including any training progress, behaviour changes, or health issues.
- Document all security incidents involving the dog, including searches, apprehensions, or use of force.
- Collaboration with Security Team:
- Work closely with other security personnel to integrate the dogs capabilities into broader security strategies.
- Communicate effectively with the team to coordinate activities such as patrols, searches, and responses to incidents.
- Provide briefings on the dogs status and any relevant updates on security tasks and challenges.
- Compliance and Legal Considerations:
- Ensure that the use of the dog complies with all legal regulations regarding animal handling, use of force, and search protocols.
- Stay up to date on laws governing the deployment of security dogs, including ethical considerations in their use.
