We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our Johannesburg-based team. This role is critical in ensuring smooth business operations through the management, administration, and support of all IT systems.

You will be a key player in both day-to-day operations and continuous improvement initiatives, requiring the ability to switch from first-level support to strategic thinking seamlessly.

As the Senior IT Systems Administrator at BlueSky, youll play a key role in the improvement, modernisation, management and security of all systems, assets and tools across all 3 of our operating areas (Johannesburg, Cape Town and Mauritius) and will be responsible for the management and upskilling of the Junior IT Systems Administrator.

Your ability to solve problems in a proactive, calm, yet high-urgency manner and your stakeholder management skills will be what set you aparrt from your peers and will set you on the path towards IT Manager. Responsibilities:

First Level Support:

  • Provide first-line technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software issues promptly.
  • Respond to help desk requests and troubleshoot problems related to desktops, laptops, printers, and AV equipment.
  • Perform user account management tasks, including account creation, modification, and termination.

Second Level Support:

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues escalated from the first level, ensuring timely and effective problem resolution.
  • Manage and support enterprise applications, including Microsoft 365, Atlassian Suite, and Lucid Charts, among others.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting and connectivity issues, including logging calls to and managing escalations to service providers.

Third Level Support:

  • Investigate and resolve complex technical problems related to servers, networking, and infrastructure.
  • Perform system upgrades, patches, and ensure the overall health and security of servers and systems.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to design and implement infrastructure improvements.
  • Assist with any other technical issues related to IT Assets, software, suppliers or tools.

Business Improvements:

  • Read, research and remain up-to-date with leading practices
  • Suggest and present ideas for business improvements and enhancements

Infrastructure Management:

  • Monitor and maintain server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for critical systems.
  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with security policies.

Documentation and Training:

  • Create and update documentation for IT processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on best practices and efficient use of IT resources.

Networking and Cloud:

  • Manage network operations with a good understanding and practical experience.
  • Administer and configure networks, including Office365, Azure Active Directory, and other Microsoft and AWS cloud services.

Customer Service:

  • Deliver proactive customer service with patience and a willingness to help.
  • Maintain a customer-centric approach in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an IT Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Experience in administering and managing diverse IT systems, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, O365, Network Security, Endpoint Security, and Atlassian Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Proficiency in administering and troubleshooting Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals/Administrator, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet NSE 1-3, CCNA) are a plus.
