This is a remote position. Ringier South Africa is looking to hire a Platform Engineer . We are a technology company supporting international marketplaces based in Cape Town, South Africa and Mauritius. Not based in South Africa or Mauritius? We hire outside of South Africa (+/- 3 hours from SAST). We build and maintain the tech for Classifieds Marketplaces across the world. Our platforms attract millions of views per month, and are market leaders in their respective countries. We aim to solve all of the technical requirements for running a highly scalable, highly available marketplace business. It does this while still giving local customisations for different countries and continuously improving from what we’ve learnt in other markets. What will you do? Your mission will be to build and maintain vertical independent infrastructure, development pipelines and software services and set group-wide platform engineering standards. Assist in Research, P. O. C and implementation of new technologies or services to be adopted by the entire Group. Configuration and management of various servers/instances via Docker, Terraform and Ansible. “Everything” runs on docker, but we are still in the process of moving legacy over to docker. Write scripts and automation using Bash/Python/Groovy. Reviewing and approving the work of your peers as part of the software development process. Maintaining our Cloud Infrastructure primarily on AWS. Maintaining the reliability of our CI/CD. Build independent web-based tools and micro services to help dev workflows. Planning and Implementation of backup scenarios, log-rotations and overall scaling concepts for large datasets. Keep abreast with industry trends, new technologies and best practices in the Dev Ops and development space. Proactively improve products, systems and processes. Deliver software and projects according to agreed timelines. Tenacity and the ability to solve complex software bugs. What will you bring? Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience. At least 5 years in active Development roles. Experience with most of the technology used, but specifically Terraform and Docker. Have strong operational experience with AWS, Linux and My SQL. Professional, Self-motivated attitude. We’re a relaxed office. Proficient in written and oral English communication. Eager to learn, open to constructive criticism and willing to be a team player in delivering the best solutions possible. Be comfortable working in an agile and fast-paced environment.
