Primary objective of the role
Read blueprints and specifications. Monitor operations to ensure that they meet production standards. Recommend adjustments to the production process. Inspect, test, and measure materials and products being produced. Measure products with rulers, callipers, gauges, micrometres, and make use of the CMM machine. Control measurement equipment. Accept or reject finished items. Remove all products and materials that fail to meet specifications. Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products. Report inspection and test data
1.1 Primary Duties
- Ensure that the production team is aware of the importance of quality of work produced for Scamont and/or the customer requirements throughout the organization.
- Inspecting the first component of each production run, making sure that the product is within specification and conforms to the latest revision drawing against calibrated measuring instrument, before batch is machined.
- Ensuring the operators are using the most current documentation and that all aspects of the documentation are filled out correctly.
- Doing spot checks throughout the shift in order to verify that the product has not deviated from the required specification and drawing.
- Quarantine components that do not conform to our quality standards to insure they are not booked to stock.
- Open Action Requests, make recommendation, and assist in the preventative and corrective actions.
- Maintain, distribute and control measurement equipment to ensure it conforms to internationally recognised standards.
- Make decisions regarding quality related issues that may arise within the work environment in order to solve and overcome them as effectively as possible. Consult with Division Engineer or General Manager as required.
- Assist with on-the-job training where necessary in order to improve efficiency and quality of operators/machinists.
- Through QC (inspection) reports, identify problem areas regarding quality and put in place the required preventative measures that will reduce non-conforming components and unnecessary cost to the company.
- Assist Factory Manager and Division Engineer with their primary duties.
- Do final CMM measurements on Covers, stage casings, bearing housing and balance chambers.
- Write, store and control CMM programs to the latest revision drawings.
1.2 Secondary duties
- Enforce the use of the correct PPE at all times.
- Ensure that good house-keeping is practiced within the factory. A good, clean work environment is essential for safety.
- Be able to handle conflict in the factory.
- Building team spirit among the workmen and also motivating good moral through personal involvement.
- Assist in training material, knowledge, evaluation of effectiveness of training.
- Be familiar with and initiate disciplinary procedure when needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Matric or NQF equivalent
- Qualified Fitter and Turner preferably
- 5 to 8 years production experience
- Conversant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993,
- Strong computer literacy skills
- Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems (Visual Esti-track) experience
- ISO 9001 implementation and reporting experience
- CMM operation and programming
