Bail Operator

Were looking for a driven Bail Operator in our Cape Town Office who will be responsible for rendering professional legal advice, act on behalf of LAW FOR ALL policy holders by way of answering the emergency bail line; registering new bail files on Lawyerly; registering new case drafts on Lawyerly; informal mediation and negotiations with the SAPS; attend to the drafting of claims assessments, managing pending bail files and liaising with panel attorneys and service providers. The Bail Operator takes full responsibility for his or her pending load. The Bail Operator is required to tend to the Emergency Bail Queues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to speak, write and understand two official South African languages of which English and Afrikaans should be one or both,

2. Matric and or an equivalent. A Paralegal Diploma would be advantageous,

3. Experience on the after hour bail line would be advantageous,

4. Computer literate, excellent communication skills and initiative,

5. Excellent team player,

6. Ability to work without supervision,

7. Positive and motivated individual,

8. Also possess the attributes as set out under the heading knowledge, skills and abilities,

9. Ability to work shifts as/when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Duties, as set out below, is not limited to same, any reasonable request made by LAW for ALL or demands that the office might require will be the responsibility of the Bail Operator to comply with and/or attend to)

  • Assist with answering the emergency bail queues during office hours;
  • Registering of new criminal files;
  • Registering new bail files and obtaining all the relevant information to assist in mediating on the bail file;
  • Verification of policy status;
  • Managing litigation exclusions in cooperation with the Head of Department and in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Legal Policy;
  • Organizing referrals/instructions to accredited panel attorneys, where necessary;
  • Follow rejection/exclusion procedures in accordance with the legal policy and as required by law, as well as in terms of the SLA set out in the Claim Policy;
  • Supply regular progress reports and/or feedback to policy holders / next of kin on their pending files. Feedback must be provided regularly as indicated by the Bail Code of Conduct;
  • Assisting bail operators with in office follow ups, where necessary;
  • Keeping of comprehensive and complete legal case files with regular entries and notes as prescribed by the Legal Policy and Claims Policy;
  • Attending to referring in office bail files, where policy holders have not been released, to the after hour bail team for further attendance;
  • Assist with mediating on bail files should bail operators not be present/office is short staffed;
  • Assist with updating the bail back packs for After Hour Bail Attendees. Bail packs should contain:

o Most recent bail panel list

o Most recent panel attorney list

o South African police station contact numbers

o Exam pads to make manual file notes should there be any technical difficulties on the laptop of the afterhours bail attendees

  • Ensuring sufficient data on the after hour bail cell phones and airtime top ups;
  • Making sure that bail reports are submitted on time by afterhours bail attendees;
  • Ensuring inspection of the after hour equipment upon receipt of the same and before redistribution of same;
  • Making sure that the bail back packs are signed in and out should after hour attendee collect same from the office;
  • Attending to call back tasks on Lawyerly;
  • Assisting on after hours bail, where applicable;
  • Core functions listed in the Bail Code of Conduct.,
  • Attending to claim submissions, where necessary, e.g. bail on new facts and in terms of SLA dictated in the Claims Policy;
  • Proper administration of his/her file load of pending case files; and diarizing system;
  • Follow instructions left by management in file notes or via e-mail or verbal instruction;
