Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Fibre Technician to join our team in Polokwane. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring both technical fibre optic work and related civil infrastructure duties. The successful candidate will install, maintain, and repair fibre optic cables, as well as perform civil tasks such as trenching, duct laying, pole installations, and site restorations. The role demands hands-on problem-solving, physical resilience, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, splice, test, and maintain fibre optic cables and systems
• Troubleshoot and repair fibre faults and outages efficiently
• Conduct site surveys and prepare for fibre and civil works
• Perform civil works including trenching, duct installation, pole planting, backfilling, and site reinstatement
• Read and interpret civil and fibre route plans
• Ensure all work complies with industry, safety, and quality standards
• Collaborate with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure timely project completion
• Maintain accurate records and complete job documentation
• Assist with emergency repairs and after-hours support when needed

Qualifications & Skills

• Hands-on experience with fibre optic cabling, splicing, and testing
• Familiarity with civil work tools and techniques (e.g., trenching, core drilling, duct laying)
• Ability to operate and maintain civil tools and machinery (e.g., jackhammers, compactors, drills)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness
• Experience on Openserve and Vodacom Network
• Basic understanding of fibre optics and network design principles
• Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in varying environments
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Certification in fibre optics is an advantage (e.g., FOA, CFOT)
• Valid driver’s license
