Laboratory Administrator
Duties/Pligte Laboratory Management and Compliance
- Overseeing and managing the laboratorys quality assurance.
- Ensuring compliance with biosafety and ethical regulations.
- Managing laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Routine processing and storage of blood, saliva, and stool samples.
- Routine DNA and RNA extraction from blood, saliva, and stool samples.
- Processing, organising, and summarising data using scientific, word processing, and statistical software applications.
- Assisting with grant applications, budgeting, and procurement.
- Maintaining the research group website and social media pages.
- Providing training and mentorship to students and research staff.
- Performing all duties within the context of Stellenbosch Universitys Mission, Vision, and Values.
- A postgraduate degree (MSc or higher) in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
- At least two years laboratory administration experience.
- Familiarity with laboratory regulatory requirements.
- Strong background in molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, genotyping and real-time PCR.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently as well as within a research team environment.
- The ability to communicate in English.
- Experience in microbiome and human genome research.
- Previous involvement in a research-intensive environment.
- Experience with REDCap and LIMS software.
