Production Journalist (night team)

Job Summary:

News24 is looking for a digitally savvy production journalist to join our production desk team in Cape Town.

Skills & Competencies:

• Excellent writing, rewriting and sub-editing skills.
• Has an excellent eye for visuals.
• Knowledge of photo editing, basic graphics would be advantageous.
• A good understanding of local and international news, and a passion for breaking news, with an ability to identify content that resonates with local audiences.
• Versatile, flexible and adaptable to change.
• Perform under pressure, with short turn-around times.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Knowledge of a CMS.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Produce online-ready content with the appropriate collateral to enrich copy.
• Copy-tasting relevant local and international content.
• Edit content to ensure its in line with the style of the publication.
• Help with the moderation of comments.
• Ability to quickly compile breaking news and/or aggregations where needed.
• Manage the flow of content from various sections and sites to the main News24 site when the site editor is unavailable.
• Run live blogs.
• Send out newsletters where required.
• Willingness to work irregular hours - and independently - over weekends and public holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

• A relevant tertiary qualification.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in the journalism industry.
• Experience in online environment.
• Proven experience as a reporter, sub-editor or content producer/production journalist.
