Production Manager (Automotive Industry)
Job Purpose:
Production Management:
- Oversee and manage the entire production process in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Ensure production targets are met on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Optimize production efficiency and reduce waste through continuous improvement initiatives.
Press and Die Operations:
- Supervise and manage press and die operations, ensuring precision and quality in metal forming processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to press machinery, dies, and tooling.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs for press and die equipment.
Aluminum Manufacturing Expertise:
- Manage the production of aluminum components, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
- Oversee processes such as casting, extrusion, and finishing of aluminium parts.
- Ensure proper handling and treatment of aluminum to maintain material integrity.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production supervisors, operators, and technicians.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability within the production team.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide training to enhance team skills.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all products meet quality standards and comply with automotive industry regulations.
- Implement and monitor quality control processes to minimize defects and rework.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address production-related quality issues.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with South African health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment and enforce safety protocols.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Manage production budgets, including labour, materials, and equipment costs.
- Optimize resource allocation to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
- Source and manage relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and present production reports to senior management.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., engineering, procurement, and logistics) to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate production goals, progress, and challenges effectively.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software (e.g., SAP, MRP).
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and quality standards.
- Knowledge of press machinery, dies, and tooling.
- Familiarity with aluminum properties, treatments, and manufacturing techniques.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
