Job Description -The Superintendent role supports the Senior Superintendent in an Operation within the Anglo American Platinum to manage resources and investigate breaches of security. The role needs to initiate and manage appropriate systems within the Operation to minimize risks relating to the security of employees and assets. The position will also manage day-to-day shift operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate and plan work for the Protection Services shift through effective liaison with Supervisors
  • Work scheduling for a Protection Services shift
  • Continuously liaise with the Senior Superintendent on protection strategy and policies
  • Monitoring security indicators and trends in the operation and identifying optimization proposals
  • Ensure that resources are utilized effectively to address operational needs
  • Monitoring and advising on Protection services equipment, techniques and methodologies to support operational initiatives
  • Implementing contingency plans to ensure that the operation is protected from risk even in adverse conditions
  • Implementing security technologies and approaches that would be effective for the operation
  • Manage improvement projects that will protect against risks in the operation
  • Communicate best practices to line managers within the operation
  • Identify best practices applicable to the role through benchmarking other operation
  • Conduct investigations within the operation
  • Identifying investigations requiring expert advisors or dedicated teams.
  • Build relationships with the community and local law enforcement agencies
  • Promote effective risk management approaches relating to Protection services
  • Input of ideas for protection services management decisions
  • Identify opportunities to improve protection services within the operation
  • Conduct annual and quarterly performance ratings on subordinates
  • Participate, support and manage SHEQ standards

This role is at a D1 level reporting to PS Senior Superintendent Operations.

Qualifications -You will need the following:

  • Grade 12
  • NQF level 5 qualification in Security Management or equivalent
  • Handle and use of a Shotgun for Business Purposes
  • Handle and use a Handgun for Business Purposes
  • Handle and use a Self-loading Rifle for Business Purposes
  • PSIRA Armed responses course
  • Registered with the PSIRA grade A
  • Valid drivers licence code B
  • Company Drivers licence will be advantageous
  • Armoured Vehicle driving course will be advantageous
  • Tactical firearms qualification will be advantageous

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Security or equivalent environment
  • 3 to 4 years experience in supervisory position
  • CCTV surveillance systems and control room experience is advantageous

Knowledge And Skills

  • Competent in functional systems used in the organization
  • Basic knowledge of applicable business reports writing
  • Statement taking and report writing
  • Handling and protecting the crime scene
  • Responding to violent crimes
  • Emergency preparedness and response to various situations
  • Knowledge in Investigation / Information gathering / Logistics and or Surveillance
  • Knowledge of security related legislation / policies / procedures / standards and
  • Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR)
  • Basic project management skills
  • Basic financial skills
  • Counter Industrial Action practical
  • Applicable SAPS firearm competency
  • Psychometric Assessment for firearm users
  • No criminal record
  • Pass polygraph test
  • Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
  • Use of Force Procedure
