Refractory Mason

Job Purpose:As a Refractory Mason, your primary responsibility will be to support and ensure the optimal performance of our operations by closely monitoring and resolving engineering-related issues. You will apply technically sound practices and procedures to maintain and repair equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards while meeting production targets.

Objectives:

• Conduct mechanical (refractory) inspections and preventative maintenance in designated areas to ensure optimal process performance.
• Perform equipment breakdown repairs to minimise downtime and achieve production targets.
• Identify and analyse reasons for downtime, implementing corrective measures to resolve faults promptly.
• Report adverse plant conditions to the Maintenance Team Leader and liaise with the Production Department to reduce production interruptions.
• Contribute to World Class Manufacturing standards by following procedures, conducting risk assessments, and performing task observations.
• Assist in training and coaching apprentices to enhance safety awareness and compliance.

Qualifications:

• N3 in Civil Engineering / Masonry / Bricklaying
• Trade Certificate - Mason / Bricklayer

Main Functional Knowledge:

• Technical knowledge in refractory installation
• Working knowledge of refractories and sealing materials
• Understanding of water and air cooling systems
• Familiarity with measuring equipment, pneumatics, and pumps
• Knowledge of shutdown maintenance and compliance with the OHS Act
• Understanding of gas and diesel firing systems
