About the Company

Think MAD is a results-driven digital marketing agency specialising in clients from the manufacturing, construction, and skilled trades sectors. We pride ourselves on making a real impact in “unsexy” industries - from B2B manufacturers to local trade service companies (electricians, plumbing engineers, etc.). Our mission is delivering measurable, high-ranking visibility for clients and staying ahead of industry trends to keep them at the top. At Think MAD, we value innovation, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to client success. We are a close-knit team of digital experts who thrive on creative problem-solving and achieving outstanding results for our clients in a supportive, growth-oriented culture.

Role Overview

We are looking for a high-performing SEO Manager to take ownership of our clients SEO strategies and drive their organic growth to new heights. In this full-time role, you will be the go-to expert for achieving top 3 search engine rankings and dominating the local 3-Pack on Google Maps for our clients. You will develop and execute comprehensive SEO campaigns that encompass on-page, off-page, technical, and content SEO, with a sharp focus on organic traffic growth and lead generation. As the SEO Manager, you will manage SEO end-to-end - from initial audits and keyword research, through content optimization and backlink building, to performance tracking and reporting.

This role is both strategic and hands-on: youll set the SEO vision and strategy for client accounts (particularly in manufacturing, construction, and trade services niches), and roll up your sleeves to implement best practices. You will collaborate closely with our web designers, content writers, PPC specialists, and account managers to ensure a unified digital strategy. A typical day might include optimizing a clients website for Core Web Vitals, researching the latest keywords with Google Trends, briefing the content team on SEO-friendly blog topics, analysing Google Analytics (GA4) data for insights, and hopping on a call with a client to walk through their monthly SEO performance report. If you are passionate about delivering tangible results, staying ahead of SEO trends, and leveraging cutting-edge tools (yes, we use AI-powered tools like ChatGPT Pro and Copy.ai!), then we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Execute SEO Strategies: Create, implement, and refine tailored SEO strategies for each client to achieve top 3 organic rankings on Google and maximize visibility in Google My Business/Google Maps listings. Plan both short-term quick wins and long-term growth strategies, aligned with client goals.
  • Keyword Research & Content Optimization: Conduct comprehensive keyword research (using tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, SE Ranking, and Google Keyword Planner) to identify high-value search terms in our clients industries. Guide the content strategy by providing keywords and SEO briefs to writers, and optimize website content, landing pages, and blog posts for relevancy and search intent. Ensure on-page SEO elements (titles, meta descriptions, headings, E-E-A-T content quality, internal linking) are perfected for maximum impact.
  • Technical SEO & Site Audits: Perform regular SEO audits on client websites to identify technical issues affecting crawlability, indexation, and performance. This includes checking site architecture, page speed (Core Web Vitals), mobile usability, schema markup, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and resolving issues like broken links or duplicate content. Work closely with our developers to implement technical fixes and enhancements that improve organic rankings.
  • Off-Page SEO & Link Building: Plan and execute effective backlinking campaigns to build authority for client sites. This will involve developing a backlink strategy (guest posting, outreach, PR content) and managing relationships to acquire high-quality, relevant backlinks. Utilize tools like Moz, Ahrefs, or SEMrush to monitor backlink profiles and competitors link strategies. Knowledge of advanced link-building tactics like HARO outreach and link wheel strategies to supercharge authority is a plus.
  • Local SEO: For clients in service trades and location-based businesses, manage their local search presence. Optimize Google Business Profile (Google My Business) listings for multiple locations, ensure NAP (Name/Address/Phone) consistency across directories, gather and respond to customer reviews, and implement local schema. Your goal is to have our clients dominate the local map pack and generate consistent local leads.
  • Analytics, Tracking & Reporting: Continuously monitor performance metrics and translate data into actionable insights. Use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Search Console, and other SEO tools to track organic traffic, conversion goals, user behaviour, and keyword rankings. Set up dashboards or reports (e.g., via Google Looker Studio) to measure the impact of SEO initiatives. Analyse drops or gains in traffic and ranking, diagnose issues (such as algorithm updates or crawling errors), and adjust strategies accordingly. Prepare clear, insightful reports for clients on a monthly/quarterly basis highlighting SEO progress, results (e.g., higher rankings, traffic growth, ROI), and upcoming plans.
  • Competitive Analysis: Keep a pulse on the competitive landscape in our clients sectors. Regularly conduct competitor SEO analysis to identify gaps and opportunities. Examine competitors content, keywords, backlinks, and SERP features to inform our strategy. Ensure our clients are always a step ahead of their competition in search rankings by exploiting these insights.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work hand-in-hand with different departments to execute SEO recommendations. Collaborate with the content marketing team to ensure all content is SEO-optimized and aligned with keyword strategy. Partner with web designers/developers to implement technical SEO changes or new site features. Coordinate with the PPC (Google Ads) team to align organic and paid search strategies, share insights, and ensure a cohesive approach to search engine marketing. Educate and mentor junior digital marketers or copywriters on SEO best practices to spread SEO awareness throughout the agency.
  • Client Communication & Strategy Leadership: Serve as the primary SEO contact for client accounts - build strong relationships through clear communication and trust. Attend client meetings or calls to present SEO strategies, explain campaign results in non-technical terms, and gather feedback or new requirements. Act as a consultant and advisor, translating the clients business objectives into SEO opportunities. Youll set expectations, manage project timelines, and ensure client satisfaction through a consultative approach.
  • Stay Updated on SEO Trends: Continuously research and experiment with emerging SEO trends and algorithm changes (e.g., Googles core updates, new search features, AI-driven search changes like Bing Chat/Googles AI results). Ensure Think MADs SEO practices remain cutting-edge. If Google or industry blogs announce a major change (like a new ranking factor or an update to Googles guidelines), you will proactively assess the impact on client sites and pivot strategies as needed. Embrace AI and automation tools to improve efficiency - for example, using ChatGPT Pro, Copy.ai, or Frase to assist with content ideas and optimizations, or leveraging Python/Excel for data analysis. Ultimately, you champion a culture of continuous improvement, keeping Think MAD ahead of the curve in delivering top SEO performance.

Requirements

  • Proven SEO Expertise: 5+ years of experience in SEO (with at least 2+ years in an agency or multi-client environment preferred). You have a track record of improving organic rankings and traffic for websites, and can point to campaigns where you achieved significant growth or top-ranking keywords.
  • SEO Skill Set - On-Page, Off-Page, Technical: Deep knowledge of on-page SEO (content optimization, keyword placement, UX considerations), off-page SEO (backlink strategies, outreach, digital PR), and technical SEO (site performance, indexing, schema, HTML/CSS basics). You understand the full spectrum of SEO from content schemas to canonicals. Experience conducting thorough SEO audits and implementing the recommendations is essential.
  • Keyword Research & Content Strategy: Mastery of keyword research and SEO content planning. Able to perform competitive keyword analysis, identify content gaps, and guide the creation of content that targets the right keywords for our clients niche audiences. Familiarity with content optimization tools (Surfer SEO, Frase, or similar) and on-page SEO plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math on WordPress. You know how to create content that both ranks well and converts visitors.
  • Analytics & Tools Proficiency: Highly proficient with Google Analytics (including GA4) and Google Search Console for analysing traffic patterns, user behaviour, and troubleshooting SEO issues. Strong ability to interpret data and draw insights to inform strategy. Experience with leading SEO tools such as Arefs, SEMrush, Moz, SE Ranking, and Screaming Frog is required. You should be comfortable using tools for rank tracking, backlink analysis, site crawling, and competitive research. Google Trends and other research tools should be second nature for spotting opportunities and trends.
  • AI and SEO Automation: Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-driven SEO and content tools. Whether its using ChatGPT (Pro) or Copy.ai for brainstorming titles, meta descriptions, or content outlines, or employing AI insights for trend analysis, you stay at the forefront of technology. You understand how to use these tools to enhance your workflow (not replace human expertise) and maintain content quality.
  • Google Ads Knowledge: Solid understanding of Google Ads/PPC and how paid search and organic search can complement each other. While this is not a PPC role, you should be conversant in Google Ads basics to collaborate on integrated campaigns. Experience running or coordinating SEO with PPC campaigns is a strong plus - for example, using PPC keyword data to inform SEO priorities or landing page optimizations.
  • Industry Experience - Manufacturing/Construction/Trades: Familiarity with SEO in industrial and local service contexts. Experience working on websites or campaigns for manufacturing companies, construction firms, or skilled trade services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) is highly desirable. You understand the unique challenges and opportunities in these sectors - such as targeting niche B2B keywords, optimizing for service-area businesses, and creating content that resonates with both technical professionals and local customers.
  • Strong Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Data-driven mindset with the ability to dive into analytics and search data to diagnose problems (e.g., sudden ranking drops, traffic anomalies) and identify growth opportunities. Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets or data visualization tools to analyse trends is a plus. You can set KPIs and measure SEO success in terms of ROI, conversions, and engagement - not just rankings.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to explain SEO concepts and results to clients or colleagues who may not be SEO-savvy. You are comfortable leading meetings, writing clear recommendations, and creating visual reports. As a team player, you thrive in a collaborative environment - working closely with designers, developers, content writers, and account managers. You can effectively manage projects, coordinate tasks, and inspire others to follow SEO best practices.
  • Strategic Mindset with Execution Drive: Big-picture thinking to craft innovative SEO strategies, combined with a hands-on approach to execute and see results. Youre highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple client campaigns without dropping the ball. A self-starter who keeps up with the latest SEO and digital marketing trends (algorithm updates, new tools, best practices) and continuously seeks to innovate and test new ideas.
  • Education: A Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, computer science, or a related field is a bonus (not strictly required). Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Analytics IQ, Google Ads, SEO-specific courses) or proven continuous learning in SEO will help you stand out.

Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Haves)

  • HARO & Digital PR: Experience with HARO (Help A Reporter Out) link building campaigns or similar digital PR outreach to earn high-authority backlinks. The ability to craft compelling pitches and manage reporter responses can give our link profile an extra edge.
  • Link Wheel and Advanced SEO Strategies: Familiarity with link wheel strategies or other advanced off-page SEO tactics. While we prioritise white-hat techniques, understanding creative link-building frameworks and when to use them can be advantageous.
  • Content Optimization Tools: Experience with content briefing and optimization platforms like Frase, Clear Scope, or Surfer SEO to help guide writers and ensure content fully covers user intent and semantic SEO targets.
  • Basic Coding & Web Experience: Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as they relate to SEO (you dont need to be a developer, but you can converse with developers on issues like rendering, lazy-loading, structured data, etc.). Experience working with CMS platforms (WordPress, Shopify, etc.) and implementing SEO changes within them.
  • Graphic/Video SEO: Knowledge of optimizing other media types (images, infographics, videos) for search engines, including YouTube SEO or image SEO, is a plus as we diversify content for clients.
  • Additional Digital Marketing Skills: While SEO is your primary focus, skills in adjacent areas like content marketing, social media, or UX design can be beneficial. Understanding how SEO integrates with broader marketing campaigns (email, social, PPC) helps create a cohesive strategy.
