Company Description -We have an exciting opportunity for a Section Manager Medium Term (MT) Planning. The purpose of this role is to Lead a team that integrates operational planning into the business by setting performance targets to optimise performance.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description -As our Section Manager Medium Term (MT) Planning of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Safety, Health, and Environment
  • Consistently apply Safety, Health and Environmental principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Function as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
  • Provide an environment for on-site teams to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without repercussions.
  • Ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management and safety within the working area, which includes identifying and mitigating specific risks, monitoring critical controls, integrating safety practices into daily work routines, assessing safety leadership and team fitness, conducting safety checks, analysing safety data, addressing deficiencies, and ensuring adherence to safety systems through audits and site visits.
  • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safet Actions.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Mine Planning:
  • Evaluate pit optimisation scenarios to maximise Net Present Value (NPV).
  • Improve Pit Designs following Mine Planning standards and optimisation outcomes.
  • Align the five-year business plan with strategic objectives.
  • Assess operational mine planning schedules to meet business expectations.
  • Improve medium and short-term mining requirements for optimal resource allocation.
  • Formulate rehabilitation plans to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and input for medium-term planning efforts.
  • Compliance:
  • Meet mining objectives and conform to KIO and geotechnical and operational physical standards to ensure safe mining operations within legislative guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety, risk management standards, and best practices.
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Maintain internal and external relations to ensure that business needs are met.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives to enhance mining processes.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the mine planning field to initiate and implement projects and improvement initiatives toward contributing to business profitability and growth.
  • Cost control:
  • Compile the annual budget as needed.
  • Monitor spending and expense locations to ensure appropriate reporting of cash flow management of capital budgets and projects.
  • Manage the financial aspects of both capital and operational budget.
  • People and Teams
  • Ensure work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their performance.
  • Manage high-performance teamwork between operations and maintenance to ensure total benefit to the Sishen/Kolomela mine.
  • Support developing and implementing a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the teams that align with the companys values of inclusivity and diversity.
  • Implement management processes for employee and contractor management within the work area.

This role is in Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) NC department on a band 6.12 level reporting to the Manager Technical & Integrated Planning

Qualifications
  • -B-Engineering in Industrial Engineering / Mining / Mechanical / Electrical/ Chemical /Metallurgical; Geology or equivalent on an NQF7 level
  • SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

  • 6-8 years of relevant operational experience in Open Cast Mine Planning and related operations.
  • Knowledge of mine planning software.
  • Knowledge of the Mining Industry and relevant legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
