Hast Counsellor

Position Overview:

The purpose of a HAST (HIV/AIDS, Substance Abuse, and Trauma) Counsellor is to provide counselling, support, and education to individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and trauma.

Key Responsibilities:

· HCT services as the need arises.

· Facilitate structured treatment readiness group sessions for ARV and TB patients.

· Conduct individual counselling for ART and TB patients to ensure treatment readiness.

· Conduct individual or family counselling (identified family treatment supporter) on ART before ART treatment commenced and TB patients within the first 2 weeks of commencing TB treatment

· Introduce ART and TB patients to ACCWs who do home visits for patients.

· Provide ongoing appropriate, supportive counselling to HIV, ART, and TB patients, with appropriate referral to other supportive services e.g., social worker/ psychologist.

· Present outcomes of counselling sessions of patients at team meetings.

· Detect and report barriers to adherence.

· Prepare clients for initiation of lifelong Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART), assess treatment readiness, and recommend initiation or delay to the multi-disciplinary team.

· Promote adherence to ART and TB short course treatment.

· Provide regular follow-up of clients on ART and TB

· Facilitate Adherence Support groups.

· Facilitate tracing of the Lost to Follow up clients.

· Must be up skilled through recognized training to function as generic Facility Based HAST Counsellors.

· Trained HAST counsellors should support services in the community with the roll out and implementation of integrated chronic clubs.

Requirements:

Minimum qualification of grade 10

2 years practical work experience in counselling

HAST counselling certificate
