Cold Store Supervisor

Role description (overview)

The primary role is to oversee various activities involved in the storage of items in the cold (e.g., fridge or freezer). They role also includes to be responsible for running, directing and monitoring a team of workers and to ensure the efficient running of goods in cold storage and a smooth flow of cold store orders received and dispatched.

Educational requirements

• National Senior Certificate - Grade 12
• Diploma and/or degree in logistics and/or supply chain management is advantageous
• Valid Code 8 drivers license and own transport, 10 or 14 drivers license advantageous
• Forklift license is advantageous

Experience requirements

• At least one year working experience in the meat or food industry
• At least 2 years supervisory experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Abaserve

General competence required

• Excellent communication (verbal, written) Fluent in English (essential) and Xhosa (preferrable)
• Stock receiving, dispatching and inventory control procedures
• Understand all customs procedures and requirements
• Knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety
• Warehouse management systems (WMS)
• Knowledge of Health & Safety
• General administrative duties and procedures (Filing, Documenting and Auditing)

Key performance areas

• Receive and dispatch orders.
• Manage goods received voucher (GRV) stock. Monitor stock rotation and levels.
• Manage and supervise cold store department staff and provide them with relevant training on all aspects of the operation.
• Ensure effective communication with suppliers and customers relating to stock.
• Communicate and liaise with the Debtors and Creditors Controller to ensure that returned stock is credited.
• Perform monthly stock take.
• Pick up stock for orders.
• Liaise with the Offal and Deboning departments with stock management.
• Review stock orders to determine forecasts for peak delivery periods.
